Open the official live service, not a reposted screenshot
The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque launched the electronic service in July 2026. It displays current density indicators for Tawaf and Sa’i areas and provides guidance intended to help visitors identify less crowded paths. The live page is available through the authority’s official Alharamain website.
Open the service shortly before leaving your accommodation and refresh it when you reach the Grand Mosque area. A screenshot forwarded in a group chat may already be out of date. Prayer times, group arrivals, weather, temporary routing and operational instructions can change conditions quickly. The tool is a planning aid, not a booking, permit or guarantee of entry.
How to read the density information
Compare the areas shown for the Mataf and Masaa rather than treating the Grand Mosque as one uniform crowd. The service may display different floors and routes, which can matter for visitors using a wheelchair, manual cart or a route assigned by on-site staff. Select an option only if it is appropriate for every person in the group.
A lower-density indication does not remove the need to follow barriers, signs and staff directions. Do not walk against the managed flow to reach a colour or area shown on a phone. If the live display and an on-site instruction differ, follow the on-site authority because access can be changed immediately for operational reasons.
Treat published time bands as historical guidance
A separate Saudi Press Agency advisory published on 13 August 2026 described generally lower density from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., moderate density from 5 a.m. to 8 a.m., and higher density from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Those windows describe guidance issued at that time; they are not a permanent timetable and leave some transition periods unspecified.
Use the bands to understand a possible daily pattern, then make the decision using the live indicator and current official messages. Fridays, school holidays, Ramadan, peak Umrah periods and special events can produce very different flows. Do not promise a companion that a particular hour will be quiet merely because it appeared in the August advisory.
Plan for older visitors and people with mobility needs
Discuss the route, rest needs and mobility aid before departure. Confirm where the group will meet if separated, keep a charged phone available and place a contact card with anyone who may have difficulty communicating. Allow more time for elevators, accessible routes and transport connections instead of building a plan around the shortest possible visit.
If a visitor has a condition affected by heat, exertion or crowds, seek appropriate medical advice before the journey and carry permitted medicines. The density service does not assess an individual’s health risk. A person who becomes dizzy, short of breath, confused or unable to continue safely should seek on-site assistance rather than pushing into another area.
A practical group decision plan
Nominate one person to check the official live page and another to keep track of companions. Agree on a recognizable meeting point outside the main pedestrian flow. Carry only permitted essentials, wear suitable footwear and keep identification and accommodation details accessible without displaying sensitive documents unnecessarily.
Before moving, ask four questions: Is the intended Tawaf or Sa’i area currently less crowded? Can every member use that route? Are there new on-site directions? Is anyone too tired or unwell to proceed? If one answer creates doubt, wait, choose another official route or ask staff for guidance.
Which official guidance takes priority
The live Alharamain service is the best source for the displayed density at that moment. The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, the General Authority and personnel managing the Grand Mosque may also issue operational guidance. Use official websites, applications and verified signs rather than accounts that sell access or claim to know a secret uncrowded route.
This guide does not replace permit, visa, transport or access requirements. Check Nusuk and the responsible authority for any separate requirement that applies to the visitor’s trip. Recheck the live service immediately before acting because the verified date of this article does not make a saved density reading current.
